IDAHO AND FLORIDA: THE CREEKS CONNECT
US
There is seemingly nothing to connect the west coast of Florida and the southeastern area of Idaho. Florida is balmy beaches, childhood vacations, Disney and fishing. Idaho is potatoes and wilderness, quiet places and great fishing.
But, Florida and Idaho are connected. They are connected by two creeks-Horse Creek in Florida and Deer Creek in Idaho. Each of these places shares a common threat and a real risk to their respective natural environments. Phosphate mining.
In both states, the economic value of the natural resources far outweighs the income from phosphate mining. And taxpayers are left with the costs of clean up, the risk of accidents and disasters, and the potential consequences to public health and wildlife.
Those consequences are clearly defined in the comparison
of Deer Creek in Idaho, and Horse Creek in Florida. Truly, the Creeks
Connect Us.
